The idea to make my own design for a mortar and pestle came to me while traveling to a small town Ang Sila located on the east coast of Thailand.
Ang Sila is well known for its granite products that range from giant rock sculptures to famous Thai kitchenware like mortars.
Ang Sila is a fisherman village.
It is home to oysters and mussels farms.
After spending multiple hours searching, I finally found a workshop that was willing to create a few test samples of my design.
I wanted to achieve an appearance that was as close as possible to a simple piece of stone, devoid of any human touch – like a Stone Age item.
