Location: Thailand, Bang Saray
Client: Nordic Tropical Resort
Completed: 2021
Material: Bamboo & Ropes
During the creation of a Tumelic Café at Nordic Tropical Resort, the lighting above the counter needed a suitable and original solution.

I found a solution in a “old junk store” in Pattaya 😁
Sometimes it’s possible to find really cool stuff in such stores.

It was an old traditional Thai fish trap in a quite good condition.

To blend in with the new cafe’s striking gamboge and black color scheme, I repainted the fish trap in black.

It took a while to repaint the whole trap.

Repainted fish trap before installation.

Rope was used as a “suspension”.

The funniest thing in the whole story with the lampshade is that in fact it is used exclusively as a decorative element.

At first, my intention was to position the light sources inside the lampshade.

However, when I installed the lampshade and took a closer look at the current lighting situation, it became apparent that there was already an adequate amount of light present.
